Would this assessment be a second assessment after the Early Childhood Screening that is done here in MN. Could the Early Childhood Screening be moved up to age 3, with more referral to preschool and parent support programs at that point, rather than just to Early Childhood Special Education ?

I think this would be more cost effective than returning children to kindergarten for a second year because they are not ready for first grade. If an assessment is done at age 3 or 4 then we could discover where the child is lacking in their readiness for kindergarten and we would then have a year or two to work on those areas so they can be ready. Then in kindergarten the focus can be on just what is needed to be ready for 1st grade, rather than what they should have known before entering kindergarten.

Please consider including primary care providers (child's physician or nurse practitioner) as a 'lead/who to involve' as they are critical in assessing the child's physical, mental, nutritional, hearing, vision, dental, etc. health status.
