There should be a rule that parents must spend at least 1 hr a day with their young children reading books. As we all know that the majority of the parents or grandparents don't speak the language, but at they should choose books with lots of images where they can just pretend or imagine what the book is about. Then parents or grandparents would have to check their times and activities on the educational activities checklists sheet.

I believe people have assets they can tap into; parents and grandparents have stories, i.e. games, songs, music from their heritage they can teach and share with the children under their care. For many cultures, this was a way to create a sense of community and belonging to each other; it was a way to teach the richness of language and creative thinking; it was a way to develop confidence in children. We must work hard to engage parents and grandparents that their children need them to pass on these cultural assets. When children have a strong language foundation, they will be ready for school.
